Feeney Fellows 2018

Trustees are delighted to announce that the 2018 Feeney Fellowships have been awarded to Kaye Winwood, Sarah Taylor Silverwood and Theresa Nguyen.

Kaye Winwood

Over the last 9 years Kaye Winwood has been producing food-related experiences which explore food as an artistic medium, as a visceral and emotive tool to heighten sensory experience. Kaye's research is concerned with ways in which art practices using food - and more broadly dining - contribute to new knowledges in gastronomy, performance and visual culture.

Kaye has over 20 years experience as an Arts Professional specialising in visual art, food, moving image and performance. She is a studio holder at Grand Union Studios, in Birmingham’s Digbeth area, an Honorary Research Associate at the University of Birmingham, and since 2016 has peer reviewed the online journal FEAST. Kaye also works as PT Producer for Ikon Gallery’s Looping the Loop programme in Birmingham - arts activity developed for and around Ikon’s Slow Boat (a converted narrow boat) in collaboration with Ikon’s Youth Programme.

Becoming a Feeney Fellow will enable Kaye to develop her artistic practice and give her the skills to take her work in new directions with new partners. As well as harnessing new working methods and processing - including casting, moulding, 3D printing and basic molecular gastronomy - the Fellowship will help Kaye to embed and contextualise her learning through meetings with other food related practitioners and the guidance of a critical friend.

Theresa Nguyen

Theresa Nguyen specialises in designing and hand making the finest pieces in metals, from objet d’art and tableware to luxury gifts and bespoke lighting for high end interiors including super yachts.

Her passion is to collaborate with her clients to create exceptional works of art that will both delight and enable them to mark special moments in their lives, give precious gifts to their loved ones and enrich spaces that they live or work in.

The Feeney Fellowship will enable Theresa to develop digital design skills in using both design software such as Photoshop and C.A.D. software that would enable her to directly produce 3D prototypes using wax rapid prototyping technologies/ 3D printing as a way of developing new products.

Having access to another set of artistic tools, digital design training and 3D printing equipment, Theresa hopes to increase her ability to experiment in 2D and 3D, unlock a greater degree of creativity in her work and make complex designs that could not be made otherwise by hand alone.

Theresa is also keen to pass on the skills around the process of designing, both traditional and digital design skills in schools to help encourage children and young people to explore their creativity and imagination.
