The 2017 Feeney Fellowships were awarded to Tom England and Stuart Whipps.

Tom England

Tom England is a theatre maker and project coordinator based in the West Midlands. Since 2013 he has worked on a range of creative projects in both community and theatrical settings across Birmingham and further afield, leading projects with organisations such as mac Birmingham and the Imperial War Museum North. Most recently he has worked as a co-writer, deviser and performer in The Wardrobe Ensemble’s award winning show ‘Education, Education, Education’ which is currently touring across the UK.

Tom will be using the support of the Feeney Fellowship to develop his craft as a performer, writer, and solo artist, organizing and attending a number of workshops facilitated by leading practitioners in their field. He is also hoping to use the grant to develop his understanding of the place of theatre in the cultural landscape of the West Midlands more broadly, shadowing both artists and organisations that are working closely with communities in the region. Tom sees the support of the Fellowship as an important stepping stone towards his future, looking to establish himself as a solo artist, building a body of work in Birmingham and the Black Country that contributes meaningfully to the lives of those who live in the region.
