Bobbie, who is seeking to develop her field recording skills prior to the rolling out of her for-Wards community-based music project across all forty electoral wards of the city, is a classically trained composer, piano teacher, music workshop leader and dedicated community musician. With an MMus in Composition from Birmingham Conservatoire, she has received a number of commissions including from mac arts/Punch Records and Grand Union. As well as working as a piano teacher both privately and in two state secondary schools, she has also DJ-ed across the UK and internationally, including work for Supersonic Festival, Ikon Gallery and Fierce Festival. She is also a producer and creative agent.

Bobbie says:

"The Feeney Fellowship bursary will provide invaluable support to my artistic development and compositional career via mentoring sessions with industry specialists who capture field recordings to the highest standards and use them in innovative ways. The learning and artistic development gained from this experience will impact upon my role as lead artist/composer and artistic director.

"The knowledge and skills gained will impact on the learning and development of the artistic team of composers/sound artists/musicians who also work on the for-Wards project, via sharing sessions I will facilitate in partnership with key field recording mentoring figures. This will ensure the pieces written for the project are to the highest standards."

Juneau Projects

The Juneau Projects partnership (Ben Sadler and Phil Duckworth) came into existence in 2001.  They are seeking, through the Feeney Fellowship, to develop their skills in 3D printing. They have held residencies such as the Wheatley Fellowship at Birmingham City University and the Cannon Hill Art School at the Midlands Arts Centre. They have had numerous large-scale, interactive and collaborative exhibitions and projects including PS1 New York, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Tate Britain and Tate Modern.  They are currently working on a participatory laser-cutting project in Longbridge.

They say:

"We are delighted to have been awarded a Feeney Fellowship and are very excited about the opportunity it will provide for us to develop the role of 3D printing within our work. We have a little experience of working with the process but have not had the time or resources to hone our skills, both in terms of software modelling and material production, to a point where we feel confident producing 3D printed objects and editions. The award will allow us to look at how we can work with the process and experiment with a variety of printing materials.

"We are particularly keen to work with new materials such as sandstone and ceramic, as well as materials more familiar to us such as wood and plastic, and to research how we might alter and customize printed objects using hand crafting techniques such as glazing, carving and painting. In combination with exploring how we can create 3D printed objects we will also look at how we can use 3D printing as a tool for collaboration and to facilitate other people to work with the process."
