The Arts

Performances Birmingham Ltd - £5,000

Jazzlines Summer School is a free-to-access week-long musical development programme for 70 young musicians (aged 11-18) in August 2021. Delivered in 3-tiers and led by professional musicians and educators, it offers exciting musical progression opportunities to the Jazzlines Ensembles programme.

BE FESTIVAL - £1,950

BE Next will offer week-long theatre workshops for young people who speak an additional language, resulting in a performance & upskilling. Professional artists lead the sessions and skills but the content of the work is decided by the young people often resulting in informal sharing in the room, quickly formed friendships & creation of newly devised work. 

The Playhouse £1,500

In partnership with Dr. Reza Gholami, University of Birmingham, The Play House is developing a new artistic project, 'City-zenship: What does a ‘Brummie’ education look like?' Artistically exploring ‘Brummie’ sets of values that work alongside the city's multitude of identities. 

Ex Cathedra - £4,000

Ex Cathedra’s Academy of Vocal Music aims to nurture young musicians and bring the well-being benefits of singing to c.100 children and young people aged 4 upwards through a programme of regular rehearsals and performances in prestigious venues across Birmingham. 

Rosie Kay Dance Company - £4,000

Rosie Kay Dance Company will create a modern adaptation of Virginia Woolf’s feminist novel ‘Orlando’ exploring the UK’s place in colonial and feminist history. Birmingham participants will contribute to the development of the show and perform at the Birmingham Hippodrome première. 

Friction Arts - £4,500

‘How Were You?’ is a music and arts project that will gather people in parks, for a poignant moment, a space of reflection on grief and re-connection. Embedded in the park will be places of ritual and immersive live music. 

Art360 Foundation - £12,600

Collaborative project with Birmingham-based artist, Vanley Burke, to preserve and create new access to the artist’s archive within his lifetime through practical support and curatorial engagement led by archivists and curators in the West Midlands.


Heritage

Alarum Productions - £4,600

A project to document and celebrate the women involved in campaigning and saving the canals in Birmingham in the 1960s and 70s and share them. Many are now over 75, we must secure their stories before they are lost forever.


Open Spaces

St Anne’s Hostel - £835

The Growing Project, a community-led scheme working in partnership with other organisations in Birmingham who support homeless and vulnerably housed people in crisis.

Birmingham Settlement - £4,648

Birmingham Settlement is developing a 3 acre ‘Playing Field’ on Edgbaston Reservoir to build an active, community-led open space to enable more people to benefit and engage with Birmingham’s open spaces.
